How Left-Turn Crashes at Intersections Happen
Crashes involving left turns are common at intersections, especially on highways with opposing traffic. These incidents usually happen when a driver misjudges the speed or distance of an oncoming vehicle.
Visibility can also affect how a turn is made. Low light conditions, such as during evening hours, may reduce reaction time and make it harder to see approaching traffic clearly.
Vehicle position and timing are key factors. A driver turning left must yield to oncoming vehicles, and even a small delay in judgment can lead to a crash. Road design, traffic flow, and driver awareness all contribute to how safely these turns are completed.
