San Jose, CA (June 15, 2026) – One woman died, and three other people were injured early Sunday, June 14, after a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Naglee Avenue and Park Avenue in San Jose.
According to investigators, the chain of events began around 12:16 a.m. on Sunday, June 14, when a gold Buick was seen driving recklessly along Stevens Creek Boulevard in Santa Clara. The vehicle reportedly traveled on the center median and the wrong side of the roadway before failing to stop when officers attempted a traffic stop.
The Buick continued through Santa Clara streets and onto Interstate 880 before entering San Jose. Preliminary findings indicate the driver ran a red light at Naglee Avenue and Park Avenue, striking another vehicle before hitting a traffic pole.
A woman riding in the Buick lost her life at the site of the collision. The Buick’s driver and two occupants of the other vehicle were taken to a hospital with varying levels of harm. Their identities and current medical status have not been released.
Road closures remained in place for several hours as emergency units worked in the intersection and investigators gathered evidence. Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances that led to the fatal collision.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to the woman’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.
Why Do Police Investigate Crashes Involving Vehicles That Flee Traffic Stops?
When a vehicle fails to stop for a traffic stop and continues at high speed, investigators usually review a wide range of details to determine how the sequence of actions unfolded. This can include traffic signal timing, roadway conditions, surveillance footage, witness statements, and data collected from the vehicles involved.
Investigators may also examine the route traveled before the crash, vehicle speeds, and whether any traffic laws were violated. In cases involving fatalities, a more extensive review is typically conducted to establish a clear timeline. Information gathered during the process can help explain what occurred in the moments leading up to the crash and may be used to support official findings once the review is complete.
