What Happens During a Hit-and-Run Investigation?
Hit-and-run cases often require investigators to gather information from several sources to determine what occurred and identify the driver who left. Early efforts may include reviewing roadway cameras, nearby business surveillance footage, and statements from witnesses who saw the vehicle before or after the crash.
Physical evidence can also provide useful clues. Damage left behind, vehicle parts found on the roadway, tire marks, and photographs taken shortly after the incident may help establish how the collision happened. In some cases, investigators compare this evidence with repair records or vehicle descriptions provided by witnesses.
As more information becomes available, investigators may develop a clearer picture of the sequence of events. The process can take time, especially when limited details are available during the initial stages of the case.
