Bakersfield, CA (July 22, 2026) – One person lost their life after a hit-and-run along the 3600 block of Union Avenue on July 20.
The fatal collision happened at about 10:45 p.m. Emergency units arrived to find a person lying in the roadway with serious injuries. The person was taken to a hospital, where they later died.
Investigators said the person had exited a vehicle that was stopped in the No. 1 northbound lane of Union Avenue. As they entered the roadway, a northbound vehicle traveling in the No. 2 lane struck them before the driver continued without stopping.
Investigators determined that speed did not contribute to the crash. It remains unclear whether alcohol or drugs played any part. The identity of the deceased had not been released as of this report.
