Hatfield, MA (June 25, 2026) – One person was injured following a four-vehicle collision on Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 91 in Hatfield.

According to the Massachusetts State Police, troopers responded at approximately 3 p.m. on June 24 to the southbound lanes of Interstate 91 near mile marker 28.8 after receiving reports of a crash involving four vehicles.

Hatfield EMS also responded to the scene and transported a 76-year-old man to Cooley Dickinson Hospital for treatment. Authorities have not released details regarding the extent of his injuries.

The crash prompted the temporary closure of the right travel lane as emergency crews assisted those involved, investigated the incident, and worked to clear the damaged vehicles from the roadway.

Officials reported that all lanes reopened and the scene was cleared by approximately 3:34 p.m. The circumstances that led to the collision remain under investigation.

We hope the injured man makes a full and speedy recovery.

What Do Investigators Review After Multi-Vehicle Highway Crashes?

Collisions involving multiple vehicles can present unique challenges for investigators because several impacts may occur in a short period of time. Authorities typically examine vehicle positions, roadway evidence, driver statements, and witness accounts to determine how the sequence of events unfolded.

Traffic conditions, following distances, lane changes, and driver reactions are evaluated during the investigation. Physical evidence from the roadway and vehicle damage patterns can help reconstruct the crash and identify contributing factors.

When injuries are reported, investigators may also review emergency response information and medical reports as part of their efforts to establish a complete picture of the incident. These findings help authorities determine the circumstances surrounding the crash and whether any violations contributed to the collision.
