Lancaster, CA (June 21, 2026) – One person was killed in a traffic crash involving a white Nissan Sentra and another vehicle on State Route 138 near 165th Street East in Lancaster.

According to reports from the California Highway Patrol, the fatal crash was reported around 4:43 a.m. on Friday, June 19. Initial information indicated that a white Nissan Sentra was involved in an unidentified second vehicle along SR-138 just east of 165th Street East.

The severity of the situation led investigators to reclassify the call as a fatality shortly after 5:00 a.m. Both eastbound lanes were closed while crews worked in the roadway and gathered evidence. Traffic control measures were implemented to allow limited travel through the corridor during the morning hours.

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office was notified, and tow services were later requested to remove the vehicles for evidentiary processing. The roadway was reopened shortly after 9:30 a.m.

The identity of the person who died has not yet been released, and additional details about how the collision occurred were not immediately available. Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash as they work to determine what led to it.

We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the family and friends mourning this loss.

Why Road Closures Usually Follow Fatal Highway Crashes

Fatal highway crashes frequently require extended road closures while investigators document evidence and reconstruct the sequence of events. During this process, measurements are taken, vehicle positions are recorded, and roadway conditions are examined to help determine how the collision occurred.

In many cases, specialized teams review skid marks, debris patterns, and vehicle damage to better understand the moments leading up to the crash. Evidence collection can take several hours, particularly when multiple vehicles are involved or when visibility, speed, or roadway design may be factors.

Temporary lane closures also help protect workers conducting examinations and allow damaged vehicles to be removed safely. Once investigators have gathered the information they need and the roadway has been cleared, traffic can gradually return to normal operations.
