Georgetown Twp, MI (July 7, 2026) – A 20-year-old woman was seriously injured after a collision involving a passenger vehicle and a semi-truck on Monday morning, July 6, on 48th Ave north of Bauer Rd in Georgetown Township.

The two-vehicle crash happened shortly after 7:30 a.m., more than five miles northwest of Hudsonville. According to initial reports, the woman, from Dexter, was driving north when her vehicle crossed the center line and struck the southbound semi-truck.

The force of the collision pushed the truck across the northbound lane before it entered a drainage ditch and overturned onto the driver’s side. The truck was hauling landscape mulch, and diesel fuel leaked from its tanks into the ditch, prompting cleanup efforts.

The woman was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The truck driver, a 27-year-old man from Dorr, and an 18-year-old passenger from Jenison were not hurt.

Emergency units remained at the roadway late Monday morning while hazardous materials crews worked to contain and remove the spilled diesel fuel. Additional information about the collision had not been released at the time of publication. The cause of the crash remains under review, and more information is expected as the inquiry continues.

We hope the injured driver makes a full and speedy recovery.

Why Can Fuel Spills Make Truck Crashes More Complicated?

When a commercial truck is involved in a serious roadway collision, fuel spills can create hazards beyond the damaged vehicles. Diesel fuel that enters drainage ditches, streams, or nearby soil may require specialized cleanup to reduce environmental damage. Crews usually use absorbent materials, barriers, and recovery equipment to keep fuel from spreading into surrounding waterways.

These cleanup efforts can take hours and may require temporary road closures while contaminated material is removed. Because commercial trucks carry larger fuel tanks than most passenger vehicles, even a single leak can require careful handling before traffic can safely return to normal.
