Arlington, VA (August 25, 2026) – Emergency units were called on Sunday night, August 23, to a high-rise apartment building in the 1000 block of N Quincy St after a seventh-floor unit caught fire. The flames were contained to the apartment and quickly extinguished.

Three people were initially evaluated for possible smoke inhalation. Around 11:24 p.m., one occupant and one firefighter were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The fire was confined to the seventh floor, and no additional injuries were reported in the initial account.

The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation.

Our thoughts are with everyone hurt as they recover.

What Should You Know About Injuries After an Apartment Fire?

Smoke exposure can cause breathing problems even when a fire is contained quickly. People exposed to smoke may experience coughing, throat irritation, headaches, dizziness, or difficulty breathing. Symptoms can sometimes appear after leaving the building.

Medical evaluation may include checking breathing, oxygen levels, and other signs of smoke exposure. Treatment depends on the type and amount of smoke inhaled, as well as the person’s symptoms. Children, older adults, and people with existing breathing problems may require closer monitoring.

Fire-related injuries can also include burns, cuts, and other physical harm caused during an evacuation. Moving through smoke-filled hallways or stairwells can create additional risks, making prompt medical attention important when symptoms develop.
