Perris, CA (July 30, 2026) – A two-vehicle traffic collision involving a trash truck and a white pickup was reported on July 28 on northbound I-215 just north of D St in Perris.

According to CHP dispatch information, the crash was reported at about 4:41 p.m. after a trash truck overturned onto its side in the right shoulder and slow lane following contact with a white pickup. The truck was later confirmed to be a Waste Management vehicle, and the driver was able to get out of the cab. Smoke was seen coming from the overturned vehicle, prompting emergency units to the roadway.

Tow crews with heavy-duty equipment were requested to upright the overturned vehicle. One of the involved vehicles, a white 2003 GMC Sierra pickup, was later towed from the freeway.

At least two people were involved in the collision, though the extent of their injuries was not immediately released. The cause of the collision remains under review as investigators continue gathering information.

We hope everyone affected by this crash makes a full and speedy recovery.

Why Do Overturned Commercial Truck Crashes Usually Require Extended Road Closures?

Large commercial trucks can create significant traffic disruptions when they overturn because of their size, weight, and cargo. Recovery usually requires specialized heavy-duty tow equipment capable of safely lifting the vehicle without creating additional hazards. Cleanup may also take longer if fuel, oil, hydraulic fluid, or debris spills onto the pavement, requiring crews to remove contaminants before lanes can safely reopen.

Traffic management is another key part of the process. Portions of the highway may remain closed while recovery crews position equipment, remove damaged vehicles, and inspect guardrails or pavement for damage. These steps help reduce the risk of secondary collisions and allow normal traffic flow to resume only after the roadway has been determined to be safe for motorists.
