Sacramento, CA (July 19, 2026) – A two-vehicle collision caused traffic disruptions on July 19 on the eastbound I-80 at the Madison Avenue off-ramp in Sacramento.

According to dispatch information, the crash was reported around 12:40 p.m. and involved a gray Ford F-150 equipped with a ladder rack and a black Dodge Challenger. The vehicles became entangled, blocking the inside lanes near the off-ramp. One vehicle was reportedly lodged beneath the pickup, making it difficult to separate them.

One person remained inside a vehicle while those at the scene attempted to move another vehicle to a nearby parking lot. A tow truck was later dispatched to remove the Dodge Challenger from the roadway.

The extent of any injuries has not been released, and the people involved have not been publicly identified.

The cause of the collision is still being examined, and additional information may be released as the review continues.

We hope everyone affected by this crash recovers quickly.

Why Can Lane-Blocking Crashes Create Additional Risks?

Crashes that block travel lanes on busy freeways can quickly increase the risk of secondary collisions, especially during periods of heavy traffic. Drivers approaching slowed or stopped vehicles may have limited time to react, particularly if visibility is reduced or traffic is moving at highway speeds. Vehicles that become entangled or cannot be moved immediately may require specialized towing equipment, which can extend lane closures and further delay traffic. Motorists are encouraged to reduce speed when approaching blocked lanes, remain alert for changing traffic patterns, and follow any posted warnings. Keeping a safe following distance and avoiding sudden lane changes can help reduce the chance of additional collisions while crews work to clear the roadway.
