Why Parking Lot Back-Up Crashes Can Lead to Pedestrian Injuries
Parking lots can be high-risk areas for pedestrian collisions due to frequent vehicle movement in tight spaces. Drivers often focus on backing out of spaces, which can limit visibility of people walking nearby.
Pedestrians may also be moving between parked vehicles, reducing the chance they are seen in time. Even at low speeds, backing collisions can result in injuries because pedestrians have little protection. Safety experts recommend drivers check mirrors carefully and use extra caution when reversing in crowded parking areas, especially at night or in low-light conditions.
