Suffolk County, NY (July 23, 2026) – Three people were injured on Wednesday morning, July 22, when two vehicles collided head-on on Noyac Road near Lohan Court in Southampton. It happened around 6:50 a.m., according to police.

A gray 2024 Ford F-150 pickup was heading westbound on Noyac Road when it struck a white 2018 Ford van traveling eastbound near the same intersection, police said. Both vehicles were heavily damaged in the impact, and emergency units responded to treat the injured.

The driver of the pickup, a man traveling alone, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Details about the extent of injuries to the other two people involved were not immediately available. The cause of the wreck remains under investigation.

We hope for a full recovery for everyone involved.

Why Are Head-On Accidents So Severe?

Drivers can drift across the center line on two-lane roads for several reasons, sometimes without realizing it until the last second. Fatigue, distraction, and unfamiliarity with a winding or narrow roadway are common contributing factors, especially during early morning hours when many people are commuting to work.

Severity in these cases comes largely from combined speed. When two vehicles are traveling toward each other, the total force at the moment of contact is far greater than when vehicles are moving in the same direction, even if both are traveling at relatively moderate speeds. This is one reason injuries tend to be more serious when vehicles meet front to front.

Vehicle size and type also affect the outcome. A larger pickup truck or van generally offers more structure to absorb force compared to a smaller sedan, though occupants in either vehicle can still be seriously hurt. Seatbelts and modern airbag systems are designed to reduce injury risk when two vehicles meet head-on, though they cannot eliminate it.

1Seek treatment promptly after being injured in an accident. Your first priority should always be your health. Many providers offer treatment on a lien basis, meaning you can get the care you need now and pay later when your claim is resolved.
2Before speaking with an insurance company, make sure you have the facts. An official police report is the most reliable record of what happened and can help establish liability An experienced attorney can assist you in obtaining this report and using it to protect your interests.
3Consider having your case reviewed by a qualified attorney who can guide you through the next steps. They will safeguard your rights and pursue the compensation you deserve.
