Ramapo, NY (July 23, 2026) – One person was severely injured on Wednesday morning, July 22, when an explosion and fire engulfed a building on Orange Turnpike in Ramapo. The blast happened around 10:46 a.m. at 265 Orange Turnpike, and the resulting fire required aid from multiple local fire crews.
The injured person was airlifted to a hospital in Westchester for treatment. The police said the extent of the injuries is not being disclosed at this time.
Officials said the explosion and fire are not being considered suspicious. Public property records show the building recently sold on June 3 for $1.8 million and is listed for uses including auto dealer, industrial, and residential purposes.
Route 17 reopened in both directions by 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The scene remains active as the investigation continues.
