Los Angeles, CA (September 13, 2026) – A three-vehicle crash involving a Los Angeles Police Department patrol SUV left four people injured near Vernon Avenue and Avalon Boulevard on Friday morning, September 11, in South Los Angeles. The collision was reported around 10:54 a.m.

Security camera footage showed the patrol SUV entering the intersection as other vehicles waited at the traffic lights. A red SUV entered the intersection and struck the side of the patrol vehicle, sending it into a black sedan stopped across the roadway. The patrol SUV had a shattered windshield, while the red SUV and black sedan suffered heavy front-end damage.

Four people were taken to a local hospital in unknown condition, though officials said they were expected to be fine. The officer driving the patrol SUV was a supervisor with the Community Safety Partnership Bureau and was alone in the vehicle. He and other units were responding to a backup call involving an officer who was being attacked by a suspect, with their lights and sirens activated.

The officer requesting assistance used a Taser to subdue the suspect. The circumstances surrounding the three-vehicle collision remain under investigation, and additional details were not immediately available.

Our thoughts are with everyone involved and hope they recover quickly.

What Factors Can Affect Injuries in a Three-Vehicle Crash?

Three-vehicle crashes can produce multiple points of impact, increasing the chance that people in more than one vehicle will be hurt. The direction and force of each collision, vehicle size, traffic conditions, and whether a vehicle was moving or stopped can affect the outcome.

Emergency medical evaluations may be recommended after a serious collision, even when a person’s injuries initially appear limited. Some problems involving the head, neck, back, or internal organs may not be immediately obvious. Vehicle damage can also vary widely depending on where each vehicle was struck and how much force was involved.

1Seek treatment promptly after being injured in an accident. Your first priority should always be your health. Many providers offer treatment on a lien basis, meaning you can get the care you need now and pay later when your claim is resolved.
