What Can Make a Crash Especially Serious for a Young Passenger?
Passengers can suffer significant injuries in a vehicle crash depending on the location and force of the impact. Their injuries may also be affected by whether they were properly restrained and where they were seated inside the vehicle.
Children and teens should use seat belts that fit correctly for their age and size. A properly worn seat belt helps keep a passenger in the vehicle and reduces the chance of being thrown during a collision. Airbags are also designed to work with seat belts.
After a serious crash, medical professionals may check for injuries involving the head, neck, chest, or other parts of the body. Some symptoms may not become clear immediately after an impact.
