Sacramento, CA (September 13, 2026) – One man died, and a firefighter was injured after a fire broke out at a three-story apartment complex in the 3500 block of Watt Avenue, north of Whitney Avenue in Sacramento on Friday, September 11. The fire started around 4:30 a.m. according to an official report.
Flames spread through the first floor and reached balconies on the second and third floors. Three apartments suffered heavy fire damage, while smoke damaged 27 additional apartments. Crews found the deceased man inside a first-floor apartment where the fire appeared to have started. A firefighter suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital as a precaution.
Nearby residents were placed under a shelter-in-place order while emergency units worked to extinguish the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal apartment fire.
