What Should Motorcycle Riders Know About Helmet Safety?
Motorcycle helmets can reduce the risk of serious head and brain injuries during a roadway accident. A properly fitted helmet should sit securely on the head and remain fastened while riding. Riders should also check that the helmet meets recognized safety standards.
Protective clothing can provide added protection for the skin, hands, feet, and joints. Jackets, gloves, long pants, and sturdy footwear may help limit injuries when a rider falls.
Visibility also matters, especially around larger vehicles. Bright or reflective clothing, working lights, and proper lane positioning can make motorcycles easier for other drivers to see. Following traffic signals and maintaining a safe speed can further reduce the likelihood of a collision.
