Detroit, MI (August 31, 2026) – Six workers were injured late on Saturday, August 29, after an accident inside Ford Field following an Ed Sheeran concert, according to officials.

The Detroit Fire Department responded shortly after 11 p.m. to a report of an accident inside the stadium’s vehicle tunnel during load-out operations. Six adults were injured, including one member of the Ford Field team, and all six were transported to area hospitals for treatment.

Two patients were listed in serious condition at the time they were transported, while four others were considered stable. The Detroit Fire Department provided triage assistance because of the number of people injured. None of the injuries initially appeared to be life-threatening.

The cause of the accident had not been released. Ford Field said it launched a full review of the incident and was cooperating with authorities and the event’s production partners.

Our thoughts go out to the victims as we hope for their recovery.

What Safety Measures Can Help During Event Load-Out Operations?

Event load-out operations can involve heavy equipment, vehicles, temporary structures, and large numbers of workers moving through the same area. These conditions can create additional hazards when equipment is being moved through confined spaces or when several crews are working at once. Clear communication and organized work zones can help reduce the possibility of collisions and other workplace incidents.

Workers should remain aware of vehicle and equipment movement, particularly in tunnels, loading areas, and other locations with limited visibility. Designated pedestrian paths can help separate people from moving vehicles when the layout allows. Workers operating vehicles or machinery should also maintain safe speeds and make sure their surroundings are clear before moving.

Proper protective equipment and established procedures are important during setup and teardown operations. Supervisors can help by coordinating different crews, identifying potential hazards, and keeping unnecessary personnel away from active work areas. Adequate lighting and clear communication can also make it easier for workers to recognize changing conditions and respond safely.
