What Information Is Commonly Reviewed After a Head-On Highway Impact?
After a serious roadway emergency involving opposing lanes of travel, investigators often review vehicle positions, skid marks, roadway markings, and driver statements. Photos from the roadway and damage patterns can help explain how both vehicles came together. Traffic flow, weather, and visibility are also commonly examined during the review process.
Medical findings may later provide more detail about the extent of harm to the people involved. In some cases, toxicology testing is performed routinely, even when impairment is not immediately suspected. Highway design, lane width, and nearby intersections may also be considered while piecing together a timeline. Early reports often contain limited information, with additional facts becoming available after evidence is reviewed and witness interviews are completed.
