Jackson County, MO (January 3, 2026) – A serious two-vehicle crash left both drivers hospitalized following a collision at the intersection of US Highway 50 and Route F on January 2. The incident was reported around 3:55 p.m., drawing emergency responders from multiple jurisdictions.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2024 Toyota driven by a 79-year-old woman from Lee’s Summit was traveling northbound on Route F when it failed to yield and entered the path of a 2013 Kia. The Kia, operated by a 17-year-old male from Warrensburg, was heading westbound on US 50 when it was struck on the driver’s side. The impact caused the Kia to overturn before landing upright. Both vehicles were totaled and towed from the scene by Elite Tow.
The teen driver sustained serious injuries and was transported by Lone Jack Fire to Centerpoint Hospital. The older driver was also seriously injured and taken to Research Hospital by Jackson County Ambulance District. Crews from Lone Jack Police and additional MSHP units assisted at the crash site. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
We send our sincere wishes for healing and recovery to both individuals injured in this collision.
Serious Injury Crashes in Missouri
Collisions at high-speed intersections like US 50 and Route F can result in devastating consequences, especially when right-of-way violations are involved. The January 2 crash highlights the risks drivers face when visibility is reduced or when yielding decisions are misjudged. In this case, both drivers were properly restrained, but the force of impact was still enough to cause significant injuries and a rollover, showcasing the severity of angle crashes at rural highway crossings.
Missouri’s network of intersecting highways and county roads presents frequent challenges for drivers, particularly near less signalized junctions. Drivers approaching intersections such as this are reminded to come to full stops, check for cross-traffic, and avoid assuming oncoming traffic will yield. Even brief lapses in judgment can cause collisions that result in long-term injuries or worse.
Local traffic authorities often use incidents like this to remind the public about defensive driving and the importance of patience at intersections with limited signage or visibility. For teens and senior drivers alike, awareness of road conditions, cross-traffic behavior, and speed management is critical for avoiding serious crashes.
