San Diego, CA (January 5, 2026) – A 32-year-old male motorcyclist sustained serious injuries following a high-speed collision on the freeway near Fifth Avenue late Wednesday afternoon, prompting a major trauma response and hospital transport.
The crash occurred on January 4 and involved a vehicle reportedly traveling between 60 and 65 miles per hour when it struck the motorcycle, causing the rider to be thrown from the bike. Emergency crews from Engine 18 responded promptly to the scene to provide critical care.
The rider was found with a possible open fracture to his right hip and also reported pain in his neck and back. He had briefly lost consciousness during the incident, according to responders. Crews treated him on-site, initiated IV access, and prepared him for rapid transport.
He was taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital under major trauma protocol. Despite the severity of the impact, the patient was wearing a helmet and protective goggles at the time of the crash.
Authorities have not released further information regarding the vehicle involved or the cause of the collision. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is underway.
