San Diego, CA (January 5, 2026) – A 53-year-old woman was injured Wednesday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle that fled the scene near Fifth Avenue in San Diego, according to emergency dispatch audio.
The incident occurred on January 4 around 12:00 p.m., as the woman was riding her bicycle downhill when a vehicle reportedly rolled through a stop sign and collided with her. The driver did not stop after the impact, and the vehicle’s description was not immediately available.
The bicyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, sustained apparent injuries, including a possible hip fracture, facial abrasions, and pain in both forearms. Despite the injuries, she remained conscious and alert at the scene. Emergency responders initiated care and transported her to Scripps Mercy Hospital for evaluation. She declined pain medication at the time of transport.
Officials noted that the incident was low-speed in nature, but due to the mechanism of injury and possible fracture, it was treated with caution. There was no report of head, neck, or spinal injury, and full motor and sensory function was intact.
The San Diego Police Department is expected to investigate the hit-and-run. Anyone with information about the suspect vehicle is encouraged to contact local authorities.
We extend our best wishes to the injured woman and hope for a smooth and full recovery.
