Ontario, CA (January 13, 2026) – A pedestrian lost his life after being hit by a vehicle on the eastbound side of Interstate 10 near the 4th St onramp late on December 12. The fatal incident occurred around 11:46 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
Initial reports indicate that the man had been walking along the right shoulder of the freeway and, under unknown circumstances, stepped into the roadway where he was struck by a passing vehicle. Authorities noted the pedestrian may have been drinking prior to the incident, though the circumstances remain under review.
Emergency crews responded quickly but found the man unresponsive. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene by firefighters. The driver involved remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Multiple lanes of eastbound I-10 were shut down for several hours as CHP conducted an investigation and cleared the area.
