What Makes Motorcycle Crashes More Dangerous on Busy Highways?
Motorcycle crashes on highways often result in more serious injuries due to the limited protection riders have compared to occupants of passenger vehicles. At higher speeds, even a minor collision can lead to significant consequences for a motorcyclist.
Heavy traffic conditions, such as those found on major routes like I-5, can increase the likelihood of collisions due to frequent lane changes, sudden stops, and limited visibility. Motorcycles can be harder for other drivers to see, especially in congested or fast-moving traffic.
Additionally, factors like road surface conditions, driver awareness, and reaction time all play a role. Both riders and drivers can help reduce risks by staying alert, maintaining safe distances, and being mindful of surrounding traffic.
