Gilroy, CA (January 18, 2026) – A collision involving a teenage driver left one man dead and a woman seriously injured Friday morning at a busy Gilroy intersection.
The incident occurred around 9 a.m. at the corner of Charles Lux Dr and Lopez Way. A man and woman were crossing the street in a marked crosswalk when they were struck by a vehicle. Responding crews from Gilroy Fire and Rescue arrived quickly, with medics and fire personnel working to assist those suffering from injuries after the collision. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, while the woman sustained serious injuries and was flown to a regional trauma center for further treatment.
According to Gilroy Police, the driver involved was a teen who remained at the location and cooperated fully with investigators. Officials have not indicated whether impairment or speed contributed to the crash.
The incident remains under investigation, and authorities are working to determine all contributing factors. The names of those involved have not yet been made public.
