Fresno, CA (January 18, 2026) – Medics and fire crews worked urgently to assist victims at the scene of a deadly two-vehicle crash that took the lives of a Clovis couple on Friday morning in Fresno County.
The fatal collision occurred near the intersection of Auberry Rd and Summit Mountain Rd. According to reports from the California Highway Patrol, 87-year-old Ted Amber and 86-year-old Sharon Amber were traveling on Auberry Rd when a Dodge Durango traveling in the opposite direction crossed over the center line and struck their vehicle head-on.
Emergency responders confirmed that both Ted and Sharon Amber died at the scene as a result of the severe impact. They were later identified by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office. The driver of the Dodge, 21-year-old Lazaro Hernandez, was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence.
Officials stated that impairment was not a factor in the crash. Investigators are still working to determine what caused the vehicle to veer into oncoming traffic. No further details have been released at this time.
