Ralls Co, MO (January 18, 2026) – Two people were taken to the hospital following a serious traffic accident on Saturday morning involving a passing maneuver that led to a collision and secondary impact with a bridge on US-61, just north of New London.
The incident occurred around 8:55 a.m. on January 17, according to a report from Trooper Hilliard of the Missouri State Highway Patrol. A 2006 Ford Focus was traveling northbound when it attempted to pass a 2006 Chrysler Town and Country minivan, also heading north. During the maneuver, the Focus collided with the Chrysler, causing both vehicles to lose control and strike a nearby bridge.
A 64-year-old male passenger in the Chrysler suffered moderate injuries, while the 76-year-old female driver sustained minor injuries. Both victims, residents of New London, were transported to Hannibal Regional Hospital by Marion County EMS. Officials confirmed that both individuals were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
The Chrysler sustained extensive damage and was towed from the scene by Robert’s Garage. The Ford Focus had moderate damage but was driven away. The 21-year-old male driver of the Ford, from Louisiana, MO, was not reported to be injured.
Responding agencies included the Ralls County Sheriff’s Department, Ralls County Fire Department, and Marion County Ambulance District. The crash remains under investigation.
