Harrodsburg, KY (January 18, 2026) – A tragic two-vehicle collision in Mercer County claimed the life of one driver and left another injured on Friday afternoon. The Kentucky State Police Richmond Post responded to the scene shortly before 1:00 p.m. on January 16 at the intersection of North College Street and Tapp Road.
According to the initial investigation, a 2016 Nissan Versa driven by 71-year-old Sharon Britton of Cornishville was traveling northbound on North College Street when she reportedly failed to yield to a traffic control device. Her vehicle entered the intersection and collided with a 2017 Lincoln Navigator that was heading east on Tapp Road. The Lincoln was driven by 79-year-old Jennings Marshall of Harrodsburg.
First responders from the Harrodsburg Fire Department and AmeriPro EMS provided immediate care at the scene. Britton was transported to Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, where she later died from her injuries. The Boyle County Coroner’s Office confirmed her passing at the hospital.
Marshall was also taken to Ephraim McDowell for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to recover. Kentucky State Police Trooper Tyler Holt is leading the ongoing investigation.
The intersection was closed for a period while crews worked the scene and investigators documented the crash. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of Sharon Britton during this incredibly difficult time. We also wish Mr. Marshall a full and swift recovery.
