Coffeyville, KS (January 18, 2026) – A deadly early-morning crash north of Coffeyville claimed the life of a 34-year-old man on Saturday after his pickup truck collided with a semi-truck at a rural Montgomery County intersection.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash occurred shortly after 3:00 a.m. on January 17 at the intersection of U.S. Highway 169 and County Road 2800. Investigators say Dakota Ray Hinman of Parsons was driving westbound on County Road 2800 when he failed to yield at the intersection. His Dodge Ram 1500 was then struck on the driver’s side by a northbound semi traveling along US-169.
Emergency responders arrived to find Hinman unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The driver of the semi reported pain but declined medical transport. The crash occurred amid hazardous conditions, with wind gusts in the area reportedly reaching 70 mph. It’s unclear whether the weather played a role in the incident, and the Kansas Highway Patrol continues to investigate.
Our thoughts are with the family of Dakota Hinman during this difficult time, and we extend our hopes for recovery to the semi driver.
