Hempstead, NY (January 22, 2026) – A 64-year-old man lost his life on Wednesday morning after being struck by a pickup truck while crossing Peninsula Blvd in Hempstead. The fatal incident occurred around 8:00 a.m. near the intersection with South Franklin St, according to Nassau County Police.
Authorities say the victim was attempting to cross Peninsula Blvd when he was hit by a southbound Toyota Tundra. The 49-year-old driver of the pickup truck was attempting to make a left-hand turn at the time of the collision. He remained at the scene and cooperated with responding officers.
Emergency crews arrived shortly after the crash, but tragically, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been made public as of Wednesday afternoon, pending notification of next of kin.
The roadway was closed for a period of time on Wednesday morning as investigators from the Nassau County Police Homicide Squad worked to examine the scene and gather evidence. It remains an active investigation as officials work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
