West Monroe, LA (January 22, 2026) – A pedestrian was fatally injured on Tuesday night after being struck by a vehicle on Louisiana Highway 617 (Thomas Rd), just south of Old Natchitoches Rd in West Monroe.
The incident occurred on January 20 shortly after 9:00 p.m., according to Louisiana State Police Troop F. The victim was identified as 48-year-old Aaron O’Donnell. Authorities say O’Donnell was attempting to cross Thomas Rd from west to east when he was hit by a southbound 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe.
The preliminary investigation indicated that O’Donnell was wearing dark clothing at the time of the crash. He sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died. The driver of the Hyundai, who was properly restrained, was not injured in the incident.
Impairment is not currently suspected, though routine toxicology tests were taken and will be submitted for analysis as part of the ongoing investigation.
Louisiana State Police continue to investigate the crash and remind both pedestrians and drivers to stay vigilant, especially at night. Authorities emphasized the importance of reflective clothing, using designated crossings, and remaining aware of traffic patterns to help prevent tragedies like this one.
