Inyokern, CA (January 29, 2026) – A deadly head-on collision occurred late Wednesday night on State Route 14 just north of Robbers Roost, resulting in at least one confirmed fatality and significant traffic disruption in the area.
The California Highway Patrol began receiving reports around 10:15 p.m. of a head-on crash involving a passenger vehicle and a semi-truck. Emergency responders arrived to find multiple damaged vehicles and confirmed that at least one person had died at the scene. The Kern County Fire Department shut down all lanes of SR-14 as they worked alongside law enforcement to manage the aftermath and extricate the victim.
CHP units issued a SigAlert for the area and coordinated with Caltrans to initiate a full closure near the southbound split of SR-14 and US-395. Towing services, including American Tow and Castro Towing, were dispatched to remove severely damaged vehicles, including a disabled Audi A4 and a blue Toyota Corolla. Backup congestion was reported, delaying both recovery efforts and coroner arrival.
By 12:54 a.m., the Kern County Coroner’s Office had arrived to begin official procedures. Details regarding the identity of the deceased and the total number of vehicles or individuals involved have not yet been released.
CHP investigators are working to determine the cause of the accident. Early reports referenced a vehicle crashing into another that was already disabled on the highway. Further updates will follow as the investigation develops.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the individual who lost their life in this tragic incident.
