Loon Lake, WA (January 29, 2026) – A tragic two-car accident on State Route 395 near Grote Rd claimed the life of one driver and left two others hospitalized on Thursday morning, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The crash occurred around 8:59 a.m., approximately three miles south of Loon Lake, when 23-year-old Denette March was heading north on SR-395. For reasons still under investigation, her vehicle veered off the eastern shoulder of the road, struck a guardrail, and then swerved back across the centerline into oncoming traffic. It was at that moment that her vehicle was struck on the driver’s side by an approaching car, carrying a 59-year-old and a 65-year-old.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene and worked urgently to assist those involved. March tragically succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The two occupants of the second vehicle were transported to Mt. Carmel Hospital for further care. Their current conditions have not yet been made public.
Both vehicles sustained catastrophic damage and were declared totaled. Crews worked for several hours to clear the wreckage and reroute traffic. SR-395 was temporarily closed in both directions as investigators examined the scene and debris was cleared. The highway has since reopened.
Authorities have not yet determined whether impairment played a role in the collision. The Washington State Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding this devastating crash. Our hearts go out to the family of Denette March and to those recovering from this difficult incident.
