San Diego, CA (January 30, 2026) – A 28-year-old male pedestrian was seriously injured Wednesday evening after being struck by a vehicle that veered off the roadway on Wall St in the La Jolla area, according to emergency radio reports.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:45 p.m. on January 28 while the man was performing landscaping work along the side of the busy street. Witness accounts shared through medical dispatch indicated that the driver of the vehicle appeared to have blacked out before leaving the roadway and striking the pedestrian.
The impact launched the man over a wall and approximately 15 feet down a hillside. Despite the violent nature of the crash, the victim remained conscious and was able to recall the incident. He sustained a serious tibia-fibula ankle fracture, along with facial pain and a controlled nosebleed. No signs of internal injuries were reported by medics on scene.
San Diego Fire-Rescue crews from Engine 41 and Medic 41 stabilized the man and transported him to Scripps La Jolla Hospital as a major trauma patient. He was treated for intense pain and remained in stable condition during transport.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash, including whether medical or impairment-related factors played a role in the driver’s loss of control.
