What Can Happen When Drivers Run Red Lights?
Intersections are designed to control traffic flow and reduce conflict between vehicles. When a driver runs a red light, cross traffic may have little time to react. This can lead to high-impact crashes, especially when vehicles enter from different directions.
Speed can increase the severity of intersection collisions. Vehicles traveling quickly through a signalized crossing may strike others in the side, an area that often has less structural protection.
Crashes involving multiple vehicles can occur in seconds. One initial impact may push a vehicle into another lane or car, adding to the damage and raising the risk of serious injury or death.
