What Happens When a Driver Falls Asleep at the Wheel?
Fatigue can impair reaction time and decision-making in ways similar to alcohol. A tired driver may drift across lanes or fail to notice traffic ahead. On two-lane roads, this can quickly lead to a head-on crash.
School buses are built with reinforced sides and high seat backs to protect children. Even so, sudden impacts can still cause minor injuries to passengers.
Early morning hours are a common time for fatigue-related crashes. Drivers who have not had enough rest may experience brief sleep episodes without realizing it, increasing the risk of losing control.
