Why Head-On Crashes at Rural Intersections Can Be So Severe
Head-on crashes are among the most dangerous types of traffic accidents, especially on rural roads. These areas often have higher speed limits and fewer traffic controls, which can increase the force of impact when two vehicles collide.
Rural intersections may also have limited visibility due to curves, hills, or surrounding farmland. Drivers may misjudge gaps in traffic or fail to see an approaching vehicle in time to react. In some cases, distraction or fatigue can also contribute to a vehicle crossing into oncoming traffic.
When a crash results in fire, injuries can become even more serious. Fuel leaks, engine damage, and electrical sparks can ignite quickly after a violent impact, leaving little time to escape.
