Why Pedestrian Incidents on Highways Are Extremely Dangerous
Pedestrian crashes on highways are often fatal due to high vehicle speeds and limited reaction time. Unlike city streets, highways lack safe pedestrian crossings, leaving people highly vulnerable if they enter traffic lanes.
Impacts at highway speeds produce severe forces that can overwhelm a pedestrian, even if vehicles attempt to brake. Investigators typically review traffic patterns, vehicle speeds, and roadway conditions to determine how a crash occurred.
Emergency responders rely on rapid medical intervention and traffic control to reduce further risk, but survival depends heavily on the speed of detection and response.
