Harris County, TX (March 3, 2026) – Four people were seriously injured Saturday night, February 28, after a driver crashed into a crowded sidewalk near a neighborhood park in the Spring Branch area. The incident happened around 8 p.m. near Pitner Pocket Park off Hollister Street.

According to court records, 47-year-old Jose Agustin Menjivar drove into food vendor stands set up along the sidewalk before striking a parked vehicle. Witnesses said several people were gathered in the area at the time of the crash.

Emergency units arrived and found four victims on the ground. All four were taken to nearby hospitals with serious to life-threatening injuries and remain hospitalized.

Court documents state that Menjivar admitted to drinking five 25-ounce beers before losing consciousness behind the wheel. Bystanders reportedly stopped him from leaving the scene before authorities arrived. He now faces four counts of intoxication assault and is being held without bond pending his next court appearance.

Authorities continue to investigate the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.

We are thinking of those injured as they receive medical care.

How Alcohol-Related Crashes Can Endanger Pedestrians

Alcohol can slow reaction time and impair judgment. When a driver is under the influence, they may struggle to stay in their lane or respond to hazards in time.

Areas near parks and food vendors often attract groups of people. Sidewalks and gathering spots can become especially dangerous if a vehicle leaves the roadway.

Crashes involving impaired drivers frequently result in serious injuries. Pedestrians have little protection during impacts, increasing the risk of life-threatening injury when a vehicle strikes a crowded area.

2Before speaking with an insurance company, make sure you have the facts. An official police report is the most reliable record of what happened and can help establish liability An experienced attorney can assist you in obtaining this report and using it to protect your interests.
3Consider having your case reviewed by a qualified attorney who can guide you through the next steps. They will safeguard your rights and pursue the compensation you deserve.
