Officials have not ruled out impairment as a factor in the crash. Charges, including DUI, are pending against the at-fault driver.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. Our thoughts are with those injured as they receive medical care.
Why Wrong-Way Driving Incidents Often Result in Serious Crashes
Wrong-way driving incidents can be especially dangerous because they place vehicles directly in the path of oncoming traffic. These situations often occur on highways, where speeds are higher and drivers have less time to react.
Several factors can contribute to wrong-way driving, including confusion at exits or entrance ramps, poor visibility at night, or driver impairment. Late-night hours tend to see more of these incidents, as traffic is lighter and impaired driving may be more likely.
Crashes involving wrong-way drivers often lead to severe damage due to the angle and speed of impact. Even when a direct head-on collision is avoided, secondary impacts with other vehicles or large trucks can still result in serious injuries.
