How Intersection Crashes on Rural Highways Often Occur
Crashes at rural highway intersections often happen when drivers misjudge distance or speed. Highways like Hwy 200 typically allow faster travel, which can make crossing or turning more challenging.
Limited visibility, wide-open stretches of road, and fewer traffic control devices can also increase risk. When one vehicle enters an intersection without enough clearance, the impact can be severe, especially when a large truck is involved.
Side-impact crashes are particularly dangerous because the sides of vehicles provide less protection than the front or rear. In rural areas, emergency response times may also vary depending on location, which can affect how quickly help arrives after a serious collision.
