North Star Township, MI (March 3, 2026) – A man was killed Sunday morning, March 1, following a two-vehicle rollover crash at an intersection in North Star Township.

Deputies from the Gratiot County Sheriff’s Office responded to the intersection of South State Road and Johnson Road around 8:15 a.m. after receiving reports of a serious collision.

Preliminary information indicates that a 67-year-old man was driving a pickup truck westbound on Johnson Road when he failed to stop at a stop sign. Authorities stated the pickup was then struck by a truck operated by Consumers Energy that was traveling south on State Road.

The impact caused the pickup to roll over, trapping the driver inside. Emergency responders worked at the scene, but the driver was pronounced dead.

Officials said the driver and passenger in the Consumers Energy truck were not injured in the crash.

Investigators reported that speed, road conditions, and the lack of seat belt use may have contributed to the collision. The crash remains under investigation.

Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the man who lost his life in this accident.

Why Intersection Crashes Can Be Especially Dangerous

Crashes at intersections are among the most common and dangerous types of roadway accidents. When drivers fail to obey stop signs or traffic signals, the resulting collisions can occur at high speeds and often involve vehicles crossing directly into the path of oncoming traffic.

These types of crashes frequently lead to rollovers or severe side-impact collisions, which significantly increase the risk of serious injuries or fatalities.

Seat belt use remains one of the most important safety measures in preventing fatal injuries. Wearing a seat belt can help keep occupants secured inside the vehicle and reduce the likelihood of being trapped or ejected during a crash.

Drivers are encouraged to slow down when approaching intersections, remain attentive to traffic signs, and always use seat belts to reduce the risk of severe injuries in the event of a collision.
