Clark County, IN (March 7, 2026) – A high-speed pursuit in Clark County on Friday night ended in a three-vehicle crash that injured four people, including an Indiana State Police trooper and two children.
According to the Indiana State Police, the incident began at approximately 8:15 p.m. when Trooper Wyatt Madden attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a black 2015 Chrysler 200 traveling northbound on Interstate 65 in Clark County, Indiana. Authorities said the vehicle was missing a license plate.
Officials reported that the driver of the Chrysler failed to stop and continued driving for approximately half a mile before striking a gold 2003 Ford Crown Victoria.
Investigators believe that after the initial collision, one of the vehicles veered into Trooper Madden’s patrol vehicle, striking it on the side and causing the cruiser to overturn. Despite the crash, Madden escaped from the overturned vehicle.
Police said an unidentified passenger in the Chrysler fled the scene on foot and has not yet been located.
Trooper Madden then detained the suspected driver, identified as Lamyaa Johnson, 22, of Louisville, Kentucky.
Authorities confirmed that four people were transported to a hospital following the crash, including Trooper Madden, Johnson, the driver of the Crown Victoria, and two children who were also involved in the incident. The extent of their injuries has not been fully disclosed.
Johnson was taken into custody and is currently being held at the Clark County Jail. Officials said Johnson faces several preliminary charges, including resisting law enforcement with a vehicle resulting in bodily injury, reckless driving, obstruction of justice, assisting a criminal, and aggressive driving.
The Indiana State Police continue to investigate the incident. Authorities also stated that the passenger who fled the scene remains at large.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Indiana State Police Sellersburg Post.
We extend our thoughts to those injured in this crash and hope for a full recovery.
High-Speed Pursuits Can Quickly Lead to Multi-Vehicle Crashes
Police pursuits can present serious risks for everyone on the roadway, including officers, other motorists, and passengers. When drivers attempt to evade law enforcement, speeds can increase rapidly, and drivers may make sudden or unpredictable maneuvers.
These situations can lead to chain-reaction crashes involving multiple vehicles, especially on busy highways like Interstate 65. Even when officers attempt to maintain safe pursuit distances, the fleeing driver’s actions can create dangerous conditions within seconds.
Because of these risks, law enforcement agencies often conduct detailed reviews after pursuit-related crashes. Investigators examine vehicle damage, roadway evidence, and dash camera footage to reconstruct how the incident unfolded and determine the sequence of events.
