Why Multi-Vehicle Crashes Often Occur at Intersections
Intersections are common crash locations because vehicles approach from multiple directions at once. Drivers must watch traffic signals, oncoming vehicles, pedestrians, and turning traffic at the same time.
When traffic volume increases, the risk of mistakes also rises. A driver may misjudge another vehicle’s speed or move through an intersection before it is safe.
Rear-end crashes can also occur if traffic slows suddenly near a light or stop sign. When one vehicle brakes unexpectedly, the cars behind it may not have enough time to stop.
Because several vehicles can be close together at intersections, a single impact may involve multiple cars, resulting in larger, more complex crash scenes.
