Why Median Crossovers Often Lead to Severe Collisions
Median crossover crashes occur when a vehicle leaves its lane and enters opposing traffic. On multi-lane roads and at higher speeds, this type of incident can quickly become dangerous.
Vehicles traveling in opposite directions may have very little time to react when another car suddenly crosses the median. The result can be a head-on or angled collision involving significant impact force.
Several factors can contribute to a vehicle crossing a median. Driver distraction, fatigue, sudden steering movements, or loss of vehicle control may lead to a lane departure.
When a vehicle enters opposing lanes, the speed of both vehicles combines during the crash. This often increases the severity of damage and raises the risk of serious injuries or fatalities.
