Why Pedestrian Crashes Often Occur at Early Morning Intersections
Early morning hours can be one of the most dangerous times for pedestrians on city streets. Reduced visibility, fatigue, and lighter traffic often cause drivers to pay less attention to the roadway, increasing the risk of serious crashes.
Intersections can be especially hazardous because both vehicles and pedestrians are moving in multiple directions. Drivers turning or traveling through the area may not immediately notice someone in the road, particularly before sunrise.
Roadway lighting and traffic signals also affect how easily pedestrians can be seen. In some cases, a person may be walking along or crossing a road where lighting is limited.
Vehicle speed plays a major role as well. Even at moderate speeds, a pedestrian collision can result in severe or fatal injuries due to the lack of protection for the person on foot.
