Bicycle Safety at Urban Intersections
Intersections such as Fanuel Street and Grand Avenue can create risk due to turning movements. When injuries are reported in San Diego, crews often work to stabilize traffic flow and protect those in the area.
Bicyclists share roadways with motor vehicles in many urban neighborhoods. Traffic signals and lane positioning can affect how safely cyclists move through intersections, especially where multiple directions of travel meet.
Visibility and timing also influence safety for both drivers and cyclists. When riders enter intersections without the right of way or when drivers do not anticipate bicycle traffic, the chance of a serious crash can increase.
