What Makes Tractor-Trailer Crashes Particularly Dangerous on Highways?
Crashes involving tractor-trailers can be especially severe due to the size and weight difference between large commercial trucks and passenger vehicles. When a smaller vehicle collides with or becomes trapped under a trailer, the risk of serious injury increases significantly.
Highway speeds also contribute to the force of impact, which can lead to extensive vehicle damage and complicated rescue situations. In some cases, extrication may require specialized equipment and additional time to safely remove occupants.
Factors such as limited stopping distance for large trucks, heavy traffic, and reduced nighttime visibility can all increase the likelihood of these types of collisions. Drivers should remain aware of large trucks on the road and maintain safe distances whenever possible.
