Caspar, CA (March 10, 2026) – A multi-vehicle crash involving a delivery truck shut down Highway 1 Monday afternoon, March 9, near the Caspar Creek Bridge in Mendocino County.
Emergency units responded to the southbound lanes of Highway 1 just north of County Road 409 at about 2:55 p.m. Early reports indicated a tow truck and a sedan were involved, but the incident was later confirmed to include three vehicles, including a delivery truck. Fuel was also reported to have been spilled in the southbound lane.
At least one person was reported injured in the crash. Authorities said one patient was taken to an out-of-area hospital by medical helicopter. Details about the person’s condition were not immediately released.
The collision blocked both lanes of the highway while crews worked at the scene and managed the fuel spill. The roadway remained closed for several hours before reopening later that evening.
The crash remains under investigation. Our thoughts are with those injured as they continue to receive medical care.
Highway Collisions and Hazards From Fuel Spills
Routes carrying regional traffic near Highway 1 and the Caspar Creek Bridge can experience delays after accidents. Crews in the Caspar area prioritize clearing hazards and protecting drivers when crashes occur along coastal highways.
Collisions involving multiple vehicles may create additional dangers if fuel or other fluids spill onto the roadway. These materials can make pavement slippery and increase the risk of secondary crashes if approaching drivers cannot slow down in time.
When hazardous materials are present after a crash, responders often close lanes while crews contain the spill and remove damaged vehicles. These precautions help reduce risks for drivers while the roadway is cleaned and restored for safe travel.
