How Wrong-Way Collisions Occur on Local Roads
Wrong-way crashes often occur when a driver enters a roadway from the incorrect direction or drives against the normal flow of traffic. These incidents can happen on highways, ramps, or local roads where drivers may become confused about lane direction.
Head-on impacts are among the most dangerous types of collisions because the vehicles approach each other from opposite directions. The combined speed of both vehicles can lead to severe damage and serious injuries.
Roadway signage, lane markings, and driver awareness can influence how often wrong-way incidents occur. Many communities review traffic patterns and intersection layouts to help reduce the chances of vehicles entering the wrong side of the roadway.
